PROJECT SUMMARY
GST developed an integrated audiovisual solution for the Los Angeles City College Student Union Cafeteria, designed to transform the space into a more dynamic and connected campus environment. The project incorporated a 163-inch DVLED video wall, seven digital menu boards, broadcast television distribution, and an enhanced audio system. By leveraging existing AV infrastructure and integrating new technologies through customized Extron control programming, GST’s solution focused on expanding multimedia capabilities, simplifying content distribution, and providing centralized control across multiple displays and audio sources. This approach was designed to create a flexible, user-friendly environment that supports the evolving needs of students, faculty, and campus operations.
Key Tasks Included:
- Install a 163-inch DVLED video wall using the existing mounting structure, integrating Extron DTP HDMI signal transmission and programming video routing and power controls into the existing Extron control system.
- Extend the rooftop antenna feed through an RF splitter and coaxial cabling to two rack-mounted TV tuners, configuring independent video routing across multiple displays.
- Mount two Extron line array speakers, connect them to a rack-mounted amplifier and existing DSP/mixer, and configure audio routing and volume control through the centralized system.
- Install seven 55-inch Samsung displays with individual BrightSign media players, integrating HDMI and network connectivity to support digital menu content at each location.
- Integrate network and AV components within the existing rack, organize and label cabling, configure signal pathways, and perform functional testing to verify system operation.
Through strategic AV integration and customized system programming, GST successfully brought multiple audiovisual technologies together into a cohesive, centrally managed environment. By building on the facility’s existing infrastructure, GST enhanced display, audio, and content distribution capabilities while simplifying system operation and improving overall flexibility. The completed project delivered a more connected and intuitive AV experience, demonstrating how thoughtful engineering and seamless integration can transform existing technology into a unified solution that supports the evolving needs of higher education environments.

CHALLENGE
The Los Angeles City College Student Union Cafeteria required an AV upgrade that would expand its multimedia capabilities without replacing its existing technology infrastructure. The challenge involved integrating a large-format video wall, digital signage, broadcast television, and enhanced audio into an established AV environment, while maintaining compatibility with existing switching, signal distribution, and control systems. Each component needed to function independently while operating as part of a unified system, requiring precise signal routing, customized programming, and coordinated infrastructure integration. The goal was to create a flexible, centrally managed AV environment that simplified daily operations and enhanced the overall campus experience.
